Our team has decades of combined experience providing caring and compentent counseling and therapy services to children and teens.

Message from Susan

I am delighted to welcome you to Hopscotch Counseling!  I bring a varied background to the team including experience in school counseling, career counseling in higher education and refugee resettlement.

In addition to counselor education, I am also trained in play therapy and am a Registered Play Therapist.  I work with children and adolescents with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, Autism, and other concerns.

I endeavor to provide a warm and welcoming counseling setting for clients, believing that it is through a trusting rapport that clients can find healing and wholeness. Play therapy techniques allow a child’s play to be their voice in counseling. Play is the language of childhood and is the pathway to healthy growth and development.

My therapeutic approach is primarily Child/Client-Centered. However, I also lean on my training in Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral Play therapies.

I look forward to greeting you in the playroom, and I look forward to collaborating with you as we work together to ensure your child’s wellbeing!

Message from Charlene

I am excited to join Hopscotch Counseling! My various experiences helped build my foundation as a therapist.

I was a military spouse for 18 years and worked closely with soldiers and their families, personally and professionally, throughout that time. I completed graduate school while homeschooling my son and working part-time in an after-school program in my community.

I have training in Play Therapy, AutPlay, and trauma techniques. This training allows me to enter a child’s world in their most comfortable setting, play! Through their lens, we establish a safe and therapeutic relationship based on symbolic play to explore thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behavior.

I have experience working with children and adolescents with depression, anxiety, negative self-esteem, and adjustment disorders. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, and traveling.

I look forward to working with your child as they work toward their goals to be the best version of themselves.
